Dalam bahasa Indonesia, istilah rata-rata berasal dari kata &#8220;<strong>rata<\/strong>,&#8221; yang berarti &#8220;datar&#8221; atau &#8220;sejajar.&#8221; Hal ini masuk akal karena, ketika disusun ulang, objek-objek di sisi kanan didistribusikan dengan ketinggian yang sama, sehingga menjadi datar\/sejajar (rata).
